‘Give Kids a Smile’ – More than 60 children take part!

On Friday, February 5th, more than 60 children received free dental exams, cleaning and fluoride treatment at the Rohnert Park Health Center’s “Give Kids a Smile’ event.

Give Kids a Smile is a national initiative to ensure low income and uninsured children receive access to high quality dental care. Although the event has relocated this year to our newest dental clinic in Rohnert Park, the Petaluma Health Center has taken part in this initiative for 10 years and during that time, has provided free dental care to hundreds of children.

“The children we see at our ‘Give Kids a Smile’ event are uninsured and for many of them, this is their only opportunity to access dental care throughout the year. We see firsthand the difference this makes to them and their families and are so thankful to be able to provide the service,” said Dr. Ramona English, Dental Director for the Petaluma Health Center and Rohnert Park Health Center dental clinics.

The Rohnert Park ‘Give Kids a Smile’ event is staffed by Rohnert Park Health Center dental staff and volunteers, who come back year after year to help make the event a success. Local sponsors donate free goods for the children to help upkeep their dental hygiene practices.

“It truly takes the effort of a group of people to make this event a success and we are so thankful to the volunteer dentists and assistants for their commitment to this program,” said Dr. English.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and to help celebrate our dental practices at both Petaluma and Rohnert Park will have fun activities and prizes planned for children throughout the month.
