    Dr. Sturgeon received her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from Midwestern University in Illinois. She holds two clinical research certifications with the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and the Society of Clinical Research Associates. Prior to becoming a dentist she worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist in various clinical settings. She was also the Clinical Research Coordinator at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, where she ran the Clinical Research Center, designed and conducted clinical research studies, and trained faculty, staff and students to conduct clinical research.

    Dr. Sturgeon is a National Health Service Corps Scholar. She is currently a Fellow in Advanced Clinical Simulation in the Anesthesiology Department at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center where she teaches medical and dental teams to prepare for, respond to and avoid medical emergencies through proper training, teamwork and effective communication. She is a member of the Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team and holds many certifications in medical emergency and disaster preparedness. She is a member of many professional associations, including the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists and the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors.
