Prenatal Care

Our prenatal program takes a holistic approach to pregnancy and the postpartum period.  With us, you can choose to receive care from nurse midwives, family practice physicians or an OB/GYN.

Nurse-Midwives specialize in the care of low-risk pregnancies and maintain the focus on pregnancy and birth as a natural, physiologic process.  Midwives specialize on education and emotional preparation for the changes faced during this amazing time in your life.

Family Practice Physicians specialize in care throughout one’s lifespan – from infancy to elder health care.  One of the great benefits of receiving prenatal care from a Family Practice Physician is that your newborn becomes their patient and you can rest assured that your family physician really knows you and your family!  They can also care for your non-pregnancy related medical needs.

OB/GYNs are physicians who specialize in caring for high-risk pregnancies.  They are available continuously for consultation and for any complications that may arise in labor and delivery. They perform cesarean sections and also offer VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) for women who have had a cesarean delivery for a baby in the past.

Prenatal Care Coordinators do all the new patient intakes and will help you develop an individualized plan for your pregnancy.

Perinatal Educators provide six individual and group classes.

Lactation Consultants can meet with you postpartum to assist you with successfully breastfeeding your baby.

All of our families deliver in the wonderful Birth Center at Petaluma Valley Hospital. A tour of the hospital can be provided during your prenatal care.

Specialty Services

As part of our holistic approach to your prenatal care, our patients receive the following specialty services:

  • Nutrition– we have four Registered Dieticians to help you in creating and/or maintaining a healthy diet for your pregnancy and beyond.
  • Breastfeeding Support from a licensed lactation consultant
  • Prenatal Classes- both individual and groups for you and your partner
  • Prenatal and Postpartum fitness classes: Zumba, Yoga, and more! Classes are offered at low or no cost.

Please note:  Private Insurance and Medi-Cal are accepted.  Most non-insured women qualify for a special pregnancy-only Medi-Cal.  Our resource counselor will help you through the application process.
